Many local Animal Control officers are looking to place adoptable dogs that have been picked up as strays, and not claimed by owners. Some towns hold dogs for 10 days or less, and then must euthanize to make space for the next dog that comes in. Many of these facilities run on a shoe string budget, and have limited space. Many officers do hold off on euthanizing as long as they can because they know a dog is adoptable and deserving of a new home.
